Obituary

On Friday , April 5, 2019, Edna Stallings Nash of Rocky Mount left this world of woe to meet her Heavenly Father in a new world where there is no sickness or pain and where all that is unknown is finally understood.

Our dear Edna was born May 24, 1948, in Lenoir County North Carolina, to Trudie Edna and Johnny Lee Stallings. She graduated from East Carolina University and worked for social services as a social worker lifting up people in unfortunate circumstances.

She was a child of God in all things with written and spoken word of encouragement to all who crossed her path. She never forgot her roots, and loved the county life and all she learned from family. She was preceded in death by her dear husband, Roy Nash and her brother, Johnnie Lee Stallings, Jr.. She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Sutton of Rocky Mount and her wife, Amelia; her beloved grandchildren, Eden and Gemma Curtiss; her brother Gene Stallings and his wife, Nancy, of La Grange; her nieces, Rhonda Stallings of Fayetteville, Jeannie Stallings Lane of Snow Hill, Mary Hope Stallings Braswell, and Allison Stallings Taylor, both of Wilson. She is also survived by her great nieces and nephews and her cousins and all their families who she loved so dearly. In this life as many know, God will bless us in ways unimaginable. Edna was blessed in such a way with a special relationship with her Great Uncle Willard and Great Aunt Valera of Kinston who were like a mother and father to her. For as is now with her passing, Edna understood that our omniscient God who knows every hair on our head always fills the void of sadness with what we need, right when we need it.

As she lay in the hospital, fighting with all she had in her body, broken by both cardiac and respiratory illness, she was a living testament of the caring spirit and grace of our loving God, asking about staff and their families and praying with them for their own difficult moments. She spoke words of encouragement to family to take care in her absence with her last breaths. She made sure everyone knew that she wore the armor of God and walked hand and hand with our savior. Her loving, beautiful, kind spirit will live on in the memories and good works of those who knew her.

A memorial service will be held in La Grange, N. C., a homecoming to the church she grew up in as a child, Trinity United Methodist church on May 25. In lieu of flowers please send donation to My Sister's house.http://www.mshnc.orgPO Box 7665, Rocky Mount N.C., 27804.
